Mini Movers is a programme for the 3 – 6 year old children within the Club. It began in April 2011 at Goals, Perry Barr. However, due to the inclement weather we took up the opportunity to get involved in one of the fastest growing activities in Europe, Futsal, and we moved Mini Movers to Futsal in Wheeler St.
We currently have over 30 children registered and have an average attendance of 9 – 15 children attending each week. We engage boys & girls from a variety of diverse backgrounds, many of whom have older siblings within the club. The Mini Movers programme is now the 1st step whereby we engage the children to participate in a fun sporting activity.
The key objective of Mini-Movers is to provide fun activities that enable the children to develop their spatial awareness, co-ordination and social interaction whilst developing a basic understanding of football.
“Some of the children we engage are not involved in nursery or pre-school and Mini Movers has helped them to understand that they will need to listen to a person of authority and follow the actions of a group activity.” Camella Moses.
For some the natural progression from Mini-Movers has been to get involved in structured football; we have recently witnessed children progressing onto our Under 8 Team.
As well as the obvious physical benefits of taking part in the Mini Movers programme; the programme has also helped support parents who are potty training their child by helping to encourage confidence in those children who are shy or highly dependent on parental support.
Underpinning everything that we do, we actively seek opportunities to give individual praise to the children to ensure they have a sense of achievement and self-worth.
Mini Movers operates every Saturday morning from 10:30 am – 11:30 am at Futsal. A nominal charge of £1.00 goes towards the cost of the facility hire. All we ask for is the children to wear comfy sportswear; to bring a drink and to enjoy themselves.
